The implementation of non-zero-tariff measures has brought new opportunities for agricultural cooperation between China and Zimbabwe

HARARE, April 9. As the date for China to implement zero-tariff policies for all 53 African countries approaches, more and more Chinese enterprises are coming to Zimbabwe to explore business opportunities. A meeting between the Zimbabwean government and Chinese agricultural buyers was held on the 8th in Manicaland Province of the country. Zimbabwean agricultural officials, farmers' representatives and Chinese buyers reached several cooperation intentions.

Alan Matzulu, the chief executive of the Zimbabwe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said at the event, "In recent years, Zimbabwean products such as avocados, blueberries and macadamia nuts have been popular in the Chinese market due to their excellent quality. Zimbabwe is improving various measures to take advantage of the zero-tariff policy to further expand agricultural exports to China."

Matzulu said, "I believe the strong China-Zimbabwe trade relationship will enhance the confidence of Chinese buyers and I look forward to Chinese traders strengthening cooperation with us and jointly welcoming more growth opportunities."

Wang Nan, the leader of the Chinese buyers, said to Xinhua, "Chinese enterprises are optimistic about the export potential of agricultural products from Zimbabwe and other African countries. 'Our accompanying enterprises and Zimbabwean chili producers plan to sign a cooperation memorandum. We expect a purchase volume of 5,000 tons this time.'"

Huang Minghai, the commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, said that China's zero-tariff policy will further expand Zimbabwe's agricultural exports to China and promote Zimbabwe's transformation from exporting primary agricultural products to high-value-added agricultural products. This policy will help Zimbabwe further enrich its export structure and continuously enhance economic stability and risk-resistance capabilities.

China will implement zero-tariff policies for all 53 African countries starting from May 1st. At the same time, it will continue to promote the signing of a common economic development partnership agreement and further expand the access of African products to China through upgrading "green channels", etc.
